Introduction to the Desk Phones
TFCA's phone system is based on Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). This means that your Avaya phone is actually a little computer that routes your calls through an ethernet cable to a server and then out into the internet. Our Avaya phones have the following layout:
The telephone itself can be adjusted to so its front plate is at a comfortable angle and the screen raised to reduce glare. Our phone screens are programmed with a few telephone functions and lines on the screen. Your screen will look something like this:
- a=, b =, c= | are the lines used to make calls. (a=) is the default line, the others are helpful for handling additional calls, or setting up a conference call on the fly.
- Police (non-Emergency) | press this to auto-dial the Fairfax County police non-Emergency line.
- Staff Page All | Used to make an announcement through all TFCA Avaya phones.
- Park a call | Parking is when you place an active call on hold so it can then be picked up by another staffer or on another phone.
- NOTE: to dial 911, Dial 9 first, then 911.
- Our main phone number is 571-282-0100. This is answered by a person Monday - Friday 9 AM-5 PM. Outside of office hours, our main phone number is answered by the Auto Attendant (AA).
- Our fax number is 571-282-0102. The fax machine is the copier in the Workroom.
- All phone calls made to external phone numbers display as The Falls Church Anglican.
NOTE: While all calls can display as The Falls Church Anglican, the receiving device might have programming that will override that display. For example, a new employee's number used to be use by Fr Available for 10 years. Parishioners would have saved that number as Fr Available not The Falls Church Anglican. So you call - and the parishioner will answer; “Hi Fr Available!”
