Using the SquareUp Contactless Reader

🔌 Step 1: Charge and Turn On the Reader

Plug it in using the included USB cable.

A single green light means it’s fully charged.

Press the power button once to turn it on. You should see blinking lights – that means it's ready to pair.

🔗 Step 2: Connect the Reader to Your Device

Open the Square app on your device.

Go to:

≡ Menu → Settings → Hardware → Card Readers

Tap “Connect a Reader”

Choose Contactless + Chip Reader

Follow the prompts to pair via Bluetooth.

👉 When successfully connected, you’ll see a green light on the reader.

💳 Step 3: Take a Payment

In the Square POS app:

Add an item to the cart or enter a custom amount.

Tap “Charge”

Choose “Tap/Insert Card” option.

Ask the customer to either:

Tap their contactless card or mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Pay)

Insert their chip card into the reader

✨ The reader will show four green lights and beep when the payment is complete.
