Redacting Information in an pdf document

To redact information in a PDF using Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020, follow these steps:

Open the PDF Document

  1. Launch Adobe Acrobat Pro 2020 and open the PDF file you want to redact.
  2. Go to the Tools tab at the top.
  3. Scroll down to find the Redact tool (or use the search bar within Tools to search for "Redact").
  4. Click on the Redact tool to activate it.
  5. In the redaction toolbar, click Mark for Redaction. You will have different options:
  • Text & Images | Select specific text or images you want to redact.
  • Pages | Select entire pages for redaction.
  • Find Text | Search for specific words or phrases to redact across the document.
  • Redact a whole area | Click and drag to select an area for redaction.

Preview Redactions (Optional)

After marking content, you can preview how the redactions will look by hovering over the selected areas. The areas will be highlighted with a black box (or another color depending on your settings).

Apply Redactions:

Once you're satisfied with the marked areas, click on Apply in the redaction toolbar.
A warning prompt will appear, notifying you that the redacted information will be permanently removed after saving. Click OK to confirm.

Sanitize the Document (Optional but Recommended)

Go to More Options in the redaction toolbar and select Remove Hidden Information to remove metadata and hidden content that might contain sensitive information.

Save the Redacted Document

Save the document by going to File > Save

Following these steps will ensure the sensitive information is redacted and permanently removed from your PDF.
