Logging into a Teams Meeting as an unverified guest

Sometimes, you need to be able to logon to a Teams meeting as an unverified guest (versus domain user or external guest). While the exact steps vary depending on the computer used (PC versus Mac versus iPad/tablet) and browser used (Edge versus Chrome), the basic method is the same.

  1. Copy link from email
  2. open a private tab in the browser
  3. paste link into the URL field
  4. choose the continue in the browser option
  5. sign in

Below are specific steps for each computer and browser used.

Windows PC

For someone using the Windows PC, Edge is the recommended browser for Teams meetings. You can still use Chrome, instructions below.

If you are using the Edge browser

  1. Open the Teams meeting email  
  2. right-click on the Join the meeting now link  
  3. left-click on the Copy Hyperlink option  
  4. Open Edge  
  5. Left-click on the 3 dots (ellipse) in the upper, right-hand corner of the Edge window.  
  6. Left-click on the New InPrivate window option.  
  7. In the two window that opens, paste the email link you copied into the Search or enter web address field at the top of the window then press Enter.  
  8. On the new window, left-click on the Continue on this browser option. 
    If there is another pop-up window labeled, “This site is trying to open Microsoft Teams.” click the Cancel button.  
  9. Follow the prompts.  
  10. On this screen, make sure to enter your name in the Type your name field near the top. This will help the organizers to sort you into the correct rooms later. 
  11. Choose your settings.
  12. Click the Join now button

If you are using the Chrome browser

  1. Open the Teams meeting email  
  2. right-click on the Join the meeting now link  
  3. left-click on the Copy Hyperlink option  
  4. Open Chrome  
  5. Left-click on the 3 dots (ellipse) in the upper, right-hand corner of the Edge window.  
  6. Left-click on the New Incognito window option.  
  7. In the two window that opens, paste the email link you copied into the Search Google or type a URL field at the top of the window then press Enter.  
  8. On the new window, left-click on the Continue on this browser option. 
    If there is another pop-up window labeled, Open Microsoft Teams? appears, click the Cancel button.  
  9. Follow the prompts.
