Backing up a Windows 11 Pro laptop
Using Windows File History
- Connect an External Drive:
- Plug in an external hard drive or USB drive with sufficient storage for your backup.
- Open Settings:
- Click on the Start menu and select Settings (or press Win + I).
- Navigate to Backup Settings:
- Go to Update & Security > Backup.
- Set Up File History:
- Under the Back up using File History section, click on Add a drive and select the connected external drive.
- Configure Backup Options:
- Once the drive is selected, click on More options to configure how frequently you want to back up your files and which folders you want to include or exclude.
- By default, File History backs up important folders like Documents, Pictures, Music, Desktop, etc.
- Start the Backup:
- Click on Back up now to initiate the first backup. Windows will start copying files to the external drive.
