Why Use LastPass Password Manager
LastPass is a password (and other information) manager.
It provides a very safe mechanism for:
- storing passwords and other important information like account numbers, PINS, contact info...
- You only have to remember 1 password and since we are using our network passwords - you have that memorized already
- you can share passwords either 1 time or with self-defined groups.
For example - there are accounts that your department shares for orders. If you create a group and put that information in a shared folder - they all have access to it and don't have to keep asking you for the info. - If you have a personal LastPass account, you can join it to your work LastPass account so all your passwords are in one area. INo one else - including the Administrator can access them.
it also prevents
- people leaving suddenly and taking TFCA passwords with them. Yes - this has happened here - repeatedly. And it leads to panic, and in worse case scenarios, inability to access the account and that info is lost forever.
- people being on vacation and a password is needed but the person can't be contacted (yes this too has happened).
The Executive Committee has stated that the staff is to use LastPass because it is a valuable tool for TFCA in this digital era.
